World Series 2010 Game #2. GIANTS MADNESS!!

Went down to AT&T Park to check out the madness, and drew this little ditty in the midst of it all. Then made my way up to Jillian's for the insanity of Game #2.

Jerk Steak gluttony for dinner, many shots of you-name-it, and the destruction of my voice box. Well worth it. Bring on game #3!

Halloween World Series Week in SF

As many of you know, Not only are the San Francisco Giants going to the World Series this week (can I get a WOO HOO?) , but it is also Halloween. That's what we call a double whammy...so in honor of both, my icon/logo, Halloween 2010 edition...

Sharktopus

So...sometimes I ask my friends sometimes for a topic to draw. Usually, it's something ridiculous I would have never thought of myself. And so, we have Tony's request for a Sharktopus. Granted, he may have heard of this from the sci-fi channel, which would explain its' nonsensical nature.

In any case...here it goes..the ah...sharktopus. One ugly sucker.

Just Screwin' Around - The Midnight People

Sometimes I like to sit around and sketch stuff after midnight, just for warmups, just to stay loose. My brother Al dubbed these the Midnight People.

I call this guy "The Mirage"...

...and I'll just call her "space lady."

Just screwin' around.

10.10.10 North Beach and Fleet Week

Yesterday, I had planned to tour the city and draw 10 landmarks, in participation of the One Day on Earth project being coordinated by Eyestorm Productions. As it happens, the night before brought a surprise birthday party, Fleet week, and the Italian Heritage Day in North Beach during Columbus Day weekend. Which in turn brought a very late start, crowds, and mayhem.

I figured I could at least get one done. This drawing began as a clever view through some awnings to the Transamerica Pyramid beyond. Before I could finish the Pyramid, though, the awning had been extended, which, of course, covered my view. Whaddya gonna do? Ya win some, ya lose some!

My 40th Birthday

When we were kids, my brothers and I would sit at the kitchen table and draw variations of the same thing on the same sheet of paper. For my birthday, I thought it'd be cool if we did it again.

And so we did. And here you go.

Smurfexxe v.01

So I'm sitting at a burrito joint in the Mission, when the conversation, of course, turns to Smurfette...and her little known involvement in the fetish/rubber/latex scene....

The Hobart Building, part 2

So...I like this building. The Hobart building in Downtown San Francisco. One more sitting, about 45 mins to an hour more on this one and it's done...this is an hour of black ink over 45 minutes of design markers. Goooo Architecture! Woo.

Downtown...

So, here's a certain building downtown in phase 1 of this drawing....more to come as this develops..

Muir Woods on a hot day

Today was hot all around the Bay Area, so what better way to cool off than a stroll through Ewok territory? This was done while at the cafe lodge at Muir Woods before the actual walk began...just warming up, trying out some color...

Big ole knot in an old tree. Handsome critter, ain't he?

Hangin' at the Presidio

So, I like to hang out at the Presidio in San Francisco; it's probably my favorite place in the city. For those of you who may not know, it used to be a military base; my very first girlfriend was a military brat stationed there. Great views, the Marina is nearby, cool history, and of course, the home of Star Wars.

This is a statue of Eadweard Muybridge, the father of Modern Cinema...

When I was done with Edweard over here, I walked on over to the bridge. There was fog lying over it all day...which started to clear up just as I was drawing it.
Just a sloppy little sketch. I'll be drawing this a lot more soon...

Sunny Ocean Beach is cause for news...

News crew shows up
When the temperature goes above 85 degrees in San Francisco, it's usually cause for news crews to hit the hot spots and declare a national emergency. I was on the scene to capture the action....

Hot Days in San Fran...Union Square

Union Square in August
So, this took about 2 1/2 hours or so, sitting there after having Ben and Jerry's new flavor, Boston Cream Pie. Hot days in SF...ah, you never last....

Art for Parks

In the first days of August 2010, the fine folks at Hi-Tec Sports flew myself and two other artists, Riki Takaoka, and Davis Vu to Salt Lake City to participate in the Summer Outdoor Retailers' Convention for some quick drawing mayhem, beer, food, and general good times....

So...here's the office....
The theme of the booth was "Inspired by Life". Passers by would fill out these tags, letting us know what inspired them, and we would take about 10-20 minutes to draw them out, and they would come by later to pick them up. There was a high level of variety; it was pretty challenging to stay fresh!

Hard at work....or hardly working?

Jeep Offroading...

This kid was my favorite. I asked him what he would name an elephant if he had one. He thought for a minute, then said "hmmm...I love you." So I put it on the critter's hat...

He was all into the elephant thing.

Drawing up the WORD

The FINAL WORD. Actually, it was Spoken Word. See that? See what I did there?

Here's the team...

...here's what we drank....why have just one? That's right...in the land of the Mormons... Polygamy Porter....

... and here's something we all drew together...
good times, good times....

Neo Pulp launches, check it out...

I have GOT to start publishing to this blog more often! Here's the original drawing for the first in a series of 5 artworks for Neopulp.com, a new idea in storytelling put up by FOX in which newcomers to the short story circuit have their stories published digitally by Neopulp, and illustrated by an artist, one for each of five chapters. In this case, we have Spike, a bike messenger in Los Angeles, who maybe shouldn't have answered that last phone call.... www.neopulp.com

Centerfold...blowback to the 80s

So This one is for an 80s cover band. My idea here was to emulate the artwork of the 80s, and though I know it'll remind most folks of the Nagel Girls (obvious nod to Nagel, the earrings especially...) I wanted to bring something new to the table, so I went for a little bioluminescence in the hair and eyes. I wondered what a fashionable gal from TRON's world might look like today-I'll be expanding on this idea in the future (future...future...future...)
